Kašperk Castle

Kašperk Castle has some tours in English, but seeking an authentic experience, we figured hit us with the Czech. A mixed call. We nodded along at the tour guide and looked down at the English translation packets in our hands. The 6-year-old children around us gleefully answered her questions. Kašperk Castle was founded in the 14th century by Charles IV, the guy The Charles Bridge is named after, as well as Charles University. Kašperk has spectacular views of Southern Bohemia from the top floors, and our eyes wandered. We walked the castle and courtyards for almost an hour. Then the tour guide stared at us. We stared back. She pointed at the staircase. For the first time, she switched to English. “The tour is over.” “Děkuji!” we said. We know some Czech.
