Let’s go out to the lobby

One of our favorite ways to experience a different city precisely as locals do is by going to the movies. Luckily Prague has a number of theaters, from mall multiplexes to arthouses steeped in history. Tonight, we headed to the Aero cinema, or Kino Aero, what Taste of Prague calls “the mother of all independent cinemas in Prague.” We’d originally hoped to find a Czech movie with English subtitles, but common sense indicates the unlikelihood of that combo here – so we saw Michael Showalter’s The Big Sick with Czech subtitles, and got to do a little language study while enjoying a night on the town.

Standing in line to collect our tickets – in a fairy-lit courtyard instead of a carpeted lobby – surrounded by young Czech cinephiles, we felt nothing like tourists and everything like cool kids kicking off our weekend as locals do.
