Sedlec Ossuary

by Sydney S.

Our first day out of the city of Prague took us to the town of Kutná Hora which is known for a very curious church. Dating back to the 14th century, the Sedlec Ossuary inside the Cemetery Church of All Saints is known for its peculiar skeletal decorations. The origins of the decor are still debated, but some sources claim that it was constructed by a half-blind monk who regained his eyesight after his work was completed. The church has gone through multiple reconstructions throughout the year, but still retains its main attraction, which reminds that no matter one’s status during life, we are all the same in death: quite the memento mori.
